Maui police launch ‘Put the Phone Away or Pay’ campaign against distracted driving

Beginning Monday, April 6, and continuing through April 13, 2026, motorists will see heightened traffic enforcement as part of the departmentʻs participation in the national “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign for distracted driving awareness enforcement.

New hire at Maui Police Department arrested on suspicion of sexual assault while off duty

A probationary employee of the Maui Police Department was arrested on suspicion of second, third and fourth degree sexual assault, while off duty, police said.  The 26-year-old Makawao man was taken into custody on Monday, March 30, 2026, following allegations of sexual abuse and remains detained. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

Update: Maui police launch murder investigation following fatal stabbing in Kīhei; victim identified

Maui police have since identified the victim in Sunday’s fatal stabbing incident as James Moser, 64, of Kīhei.  The Maui Police Department extended condolences to Moser’s family and friends.

Next of kin sought in identifying 13 unclaimed bodies on Maui

The Maui Police Department, in coordination with local mortuaries and healthcare partner, is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating next of kin for several deceased individuals within Maui County.
