Bermudez is the last defendant to be sentenced for his role in the Miske Enterprise. As part of his 2022 plea agreement, Bermudez admitted that he and other members of the Enterprise participated in a murder-for-hire conspiracy with co-defendant Michael J. Miske and other Enterprise members, according to the US Attorney’s Office.

The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a male suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at around 9:12 a.m., at the Bank of Hawaiʻi on South Kīhei Road in Kīhei.

Law enforcement officers from around the state conducted Operation Keiki Shield on the Island of Maui from June 27 to 29, 2025. The operation resulted in the arrest of six individuals for charges related to internet-facilitated sexual offenses against children, according to police.

Two men suffered injuries in an alleged assault reported early Saturday morning in Māʻalaea, police said. The victims, a 24-year-old Kīhei man and a 62-year-old Lahaina man were allegedly assaulted by a group of three to four unknown males near Slip 22 at Māʻalaea Boat Harbor.

A veteran officer of the Maui Police Department was arrested for first degree sexual assault on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The 48-year-old Kahului man has been placed on administrative leave and his department-issued credentials and firearm have been temporarily removed pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying two individuals involved in two armed robberies in Upcountry Maui on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The department released video in the hopes of obtaining new information.

The 43-year-old victim has since been identified as Janinekara Sturgeon of Kahului.  As of Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, the 41-year-old Kahului man arrested in conjunction with the case was charged with first degree murder.  He remains in police custody with no bail.

John B. Stancil, 37, of Waimanalo, was sentenced in federal court by US District Judge Derrick K. Watson to 240 months of imprisonment (the statutory maximum) followed by 3 years of supervised release for racketeering conspiracy.

A 74-year-old man from Haʻikū, Maui was arrested and formally charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. The charges stem from an incident reported at 7:34 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, in which Central Dispatch received a report of a woman who had sustained an injury, possibly from a fall, at a Haʻikū residence.

The Maui Police Department provided an update to the community on the progress of the officer-involved shooting that took place on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 in Pukalani. The information was shared during an afternoon press conference at the Maui Police Department’s Wailuku Station.

A former Maui police officer was arrested Tuesday on a two-count indictment for allegedly using a Taser on a member of the public without apparent legal justification, according to authorities. Robert Francis Dumaran, 47, of Kahului, entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to possessing explosive powders as a convicted felon and possessing an unregistered destructive device. Sentencing for Dumaran is set for Feb. 2, 2025, before United States District Judge Jill A. Otake.

The most recent reported ongoing scam is spoof callers claiming to be a Maui Police Department representative. Spoofing is a technique used to manipulate caller ID information, making it appear as if the call is coming from a legitimate source, such as a government agency, financial institution, or even a known contact, making it highly deceptive.
