Miske Enterprise member, Bermudez sentenced to 30 years in federal prison

Bermudez is the last defendant to be sentenced for his role in the Miske Enterprise. As part of his 2022 plea agreement, Bermudez admitted that he and other members of the Enterprise participated in a murder-for-hire conspiracy with co-defendant Michael J. Miske and other Enterprise members, according to the US Attorney’s Office.

The 43-year-old victim has since been identified as Janinekara Sturgeon of Kahului.  As of Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, the 41-year-old Kahului man arrested in conjunction with the case was charged with first degree murder.  He remains in police custody with no bail.

74-year-old Maui man charged with second-degree murder

A 74-year-old man from Haʻikū, Maui was arrested and formally charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025.
