Flags will remain at half-staff from sunrise on Friday, Aug. 29 until sunset on Monday, Sept. 1, in honor of Maui Police Officer Suzanne O, who was killed in the line of duty on Aug. 15. Funeral services for Officer O will be on Aug. 29.

Kahului home fire results in $125,000 in damage; good samaritan injured

One person was displaced following a structure fire at a home on Holua Drive in Kahului on Monday morning. A good samaritan was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services personnel for injuries suffered while assisting a resident out of the home, according to department reports.

No significant environmental impact determined for Waiʻale Road extension

Maui County’s Department of Public Works has issued a determination of no significant environmental impacts for a $73 million project to extend Waiʻale Road 1.6 miles in Waikapū. The finding and completion of an environmental assessment pave the way for the construction of the future Waikapū Country Town master-planned development.
