Episode 26 of Kīlauea eruption spews lava fountains 1,000 feet high
Episode 26 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at approximately 1:40 a.m. HST on Friday, June 20, 2025, with lava fountains and flows erupting from the north vent. Within less than a half hour, at 2:10 a.m., lava fountains had reached heights of over 1,000 feet, according to a volcanic activity summary issued by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Two Maui men injured in alleged assault in Māʻalaea
Two men suffered injuries in an alleged assault reported early Saturday morning in Māʻalaea, police said. The victims, a 24-year-old Kīhei man and a 62-year-old Lahaina man were allegedly assaulted by a group of three to four unknown males near Slip 22 at Māʻalaea Boat Harbor.

Skunk captured at Kakaʻako Waterfront Park
A live skunk was captured Wednesday night at Kaka‘ako Waterfront Park by Honolulu police after they responded to a call reporting that a skunk was running around the park near Keawe Street. Inspectors took custody of the skunk and it has been humanely euthanized to test for the rabies virus.
