Maui’s PGA Tour event, the Tournament of Champions at The Plantation Course, has secured Sentry Insurance as its title sponsor through 2035.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 22, the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation will accept applications for its intermediate basketball league. Applications will be taken through Sept. 2.

Maui Boardsailing Associationʻs 34th annual fishing and diving tournament brought in a couple of three pound “tako” or octopus and some good size oama in the weekend event held on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Kanahā Beach Park, in Kahului.

The competition embraced two new winners, Weston-Webb, the first female goofy-foot to claim victory, and Ewing, who earned the first CT win of his career.

Seabury Hall will host its annual golf tournament at the Wailea Blue Course on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. Registration for the event is now open.

Maui boys Anson Cabello, 17, and Reagan James Miles, 16, took the top two spots for the Boys 15-18 Flight at the Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Association’s Oʻahu Junior Classic.

Kyra Ong of Maui High School and Kolea Suehiro of Kamehameha Schools Maui are among a list of 15 exemplary college-bound students who were recognized at the event for their achievements and excellence in academics, athletics, community service, healthy activities, and sportsmanship.

Maui athletes are among those competing in the Special Olympics USA National Games in Orlando, Florida. There are 16 people on the Special Olympics Hawaiʻi team, and five Unified Partners from around the state.

The Ian Walsh Menehune Mayhem Foundation announced its 2022 scholarship recipients. Ten outstanding Maui students have received $2,000 scholarships for their college or university expenses.

At the 2022 International Surfing Association’s World Junior Surfing Championship in El Salvador, the Hawai’i Surf Team beat 45 countries to win the team title — and Luke Swanson and Wahiawā’s Ēweleiʻula Wong won individual gold medals. 

The 16th annual Waʻa Kiakahi will welcome eight six-member crews from all islands for its 72-mile race and features traditional ceremonies, sailing canoe rides and educational talks about celestial navigation and water skills.

Coaches from the Royal Dutch Football Association will be on Maui in June to host a three-day youth soccer camp. The purpose of the camp is to identify Hawaiʻi youth soccer players for an opportunity to travel to the Netherlands and train in the Dutch professional youth academy system.

The $642K raised is the largest charitable impact figure for the local community since the event moved to Maui in 1999.

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ALBION Soccer Club Hawai‘i hosted Hawai‘i Youth ID and Collegiate Camp this weekend, offering local youth athletes a platform to train with top collegiate coaches from across the country.
