The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Maui County through this afternoon.

Maui severe weather update: Disturbance renews threat of flooding through Monday

A disturbance approaching from the northwest is expected to renew deep tropical moisture across all Hawaiian Islands beginning late tonight. Given saturated soils and elevated stream levels following recent heavy rainfall, flooding may redevelop quickly. A Flood Watch has been extended to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Flood Watch issued through Friday; storm to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms

A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire state through Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service reports that low pressure developing west of the islands will draw abundant moisture northward as it strengthens during the next couple of days. This will bring potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms leading to flash flooding over all Hawaiian islands.

Flood Watch through this afternoon

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Maui until 10:30 a.m. At 7:16 a.m., radar showed heavy rain over east Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain is falling over the Kaupō area. Additional heavy showers are expected through the morning. Flash flooding is ongoing.

Moloka’i Flood Warning until 2:30 a.m.; Flood Watch through Sunday afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Molokaʻi until 2:30 a.m. At 11:34 p.m., A line of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms moving in from the west is producing rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour.

MEMA issues flood advisories for flood prone areas in preparation for new kona storm

South Kīhei has been identified by MEMA as an area at high-risk of flooding due to significant sediment accumulation from the recent kona low storm. Ongoing cleanup efforts are focused on restoring drainage capacity, but elevated flood risk remains. Other areas of moderate-risk include ʻĪao, East Molokaʻi, Lahaina, and East Maui.

The risk for flash flooding will begin today for Kauaʻi, tonight for Oʻahu, Wednesday for Maui County, and Wednesday night for Hawaiʻi Island. The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms and damaging southerly winds is expected to increase significantly statewide late in the week and into the weekend.

A powerful kona storm will begin impacting the western end of the state as early as Tuesday, then spread across the remainder of the island chain by midweek.

The Flood Advisory for the island of Maui was canceled at 1:29 p.m. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. for Kahoʻolawe, Lānaʻi, Maui, and Molokaʻi.

Update: 12:25 a.m., Feb. 22 — Flood Warning canceled for Maui

The Flash Flood Warning has been canceled for the island of Maui. Flood waters have receded. The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.

Monday weather updates: Winds still in the forecast; Flood Watch canceled

The Flash Flood Watch that was in effect for the Hawaiian Islands has since been cancelled. A Wind Warning continues for Maui County and the Big Island until 6 p.m. East winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 60 mph.

All County of Maui offices on Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi will be closed on Monday, Feb. 9, and only essential personnel will report to work. All County parks and permitted playing fields will be closed on Monday, Feb. 9.

Cold front to stall over Maui; Flood Watch and Wind Warning through Monday afternoon

A front will stall over Maui County through the weekend, allowing deep tropical moisture to pool over the island chain. This in combination with a disturbance aloft moving over the state, will bring the potential for heavy rainfall, a few thunderstorms and flash flooding beginning this afternoon and continuing through Monday afternoon. The greatest risk for flash flooding is expected in windward areas.
