#Haleakala Highway

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies the public of night lane closures for traffic signal work at the intersection of Hāna Highway and Haleakalā Highway. The closure will be from 9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20 to 6 a.m., Friday Nov. 21.

The closure will be from 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 to 5 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 21. Haleakalā Highway on the west side of the Hāna Highway intersection will be fully closed to traffic. Those needing to access the airport will need to head to the closest entrance through Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800).

To maintain safe and reliable service, Hawaiian Electric will be working to upgrade equipment on Haleakalā Highway, between Koloa Street and Dairy Road, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For the safety of the public and crews, the work requires the partial closure of the makai (ocean-side) lane of Haleakalā Highway in this area.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is asking drivers to exercise caution near runners taking part in the Hāna Relay on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Update: The fire was extinguished at 3:47 p.m., per command.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 22, the southbound lane of Haleakalā Highway (Route 377) between Kulalani Drive and ʻĀinakula Road in Kula will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., on weekdays.

A fire at the Kula Lodge & Restaurant on Maui reported early Monday morning is under investigation. On Aug. 11, 2025 at 3:19 a.m., a renter in one of the rooms at the Kula Lodge reported seeing flames coming from the Kula Lodge & Restaurant located at 15200 Haleakalā Highway, Kula.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation notifies road users that Kalā Road near Kahului Airport will be closed from 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2 through 5 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, for paving work under the bridge near the airport cargo entry/exit.

An estimated 11 acres of brush burned in a fire on fallow agricultural land near the Kahului Airport Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025.  The fire was first reported at 10:18 a.m., and was brought under control shortly after at 11:39 a.m.

Sergio Gabaudan, 28, of Kīhei was reported missing by a family member on Monday, May 19, 2025, after failing to show up to work on Sunday, May 18, 2025.  He was last seen leaving his residence in Kīhei on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., and calls to his cell phone remain unanswered.

A Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs from Monday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 5. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Motorists are advised of potential slowdowns near King Kekaulike High School in Pukalani on Monday, Dec. 30, as two speed tables will be installed at mile marker 0.25 on Haleakalā Highway (Route 377) in response to community and school concerns over speeding in the area.

Motorists on Maui are advised of potential traffic delays beginning Monday, Nov. 25, as crews check pavement quality on 13 state highways on the island. The data will allow HDOT to be proactive in repairing roads before they show signs of distress.

Makawao residents should prepare for a possible water outage from 9 p.m. Nov. 11 through 4 a.m. Nov. 12.
