Of the approved loans statewide, 61 loan totaling $3,941,000 have been approved for Maui residents. The Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Kīhei on Maui will permanently close on Wednesday, July 15.

County officials are urging residents and business owners affected by March’s Kona low storms to take advantage of federal disaster assistance programs before key application deadlines pass.

The US Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today the opening of Disaster Loan Outreach Centers in Kīhei, Kailua-Kona and Waialua to assist businesses, private nonprofit organizations and residents affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides occurring March 10 – 24.

At the President’s direction, federal disaster assistance is now available to help individuals and households recover from the impacts of the Kona Low flooding that occurred March 10–24, 2026. The Major Disaster Declaration authorizes FEMA’s Individual Assistance program for the City and County of Honolulu, as well as Hawaiʻi and Maui counties.  

Maui Emergency Management Agency is urging residents and businesses (including commercial properties) damaged by the recent kona storm to submit damage reports to the emergency management agency.

“SBA’s announcement has left many businesses scrambling to meet the agency’s extensive document requested under a short deadline with unclear guidance, while raising concerns about how businesses’ information will be used and secured,” the senators said.

US Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) met with the Maui County Council and Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green to discuss federal funding for Lahaina recovery and disaster relief programs.

Federal officials are reminding wildfire survivors that the US Small Business Administration’s deadline for Economic Injury Loans is Saturday, Nov. 9.
