Maui severe weather updates for Jan. 30, 2025: Flash Flood Warning extended, severe thunderstorms in forecast
The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui in Maui County until 3:30 a.m. At 12:18 a.m., radar and rain gages indicated that heavy rainfall continues to move over Maui from the southwest.

Wind Advisory: Localized gusts up to 50 mph in forecast
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of Maui, Lānaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island through 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024. The NWS forecast calls for east winds blowing at 20-30 mph with localized gusts up to 50 mph.
High Wind Warning issued for Haleakalā on Maui and Big Island summits
On the Big Island summits, southwest winds of 50 to 70 mph will increase to 60 to 80 mph Tuesday. On the high summit of Haleakalā on Maui, southwest winds will build to 45 to 55 mph tonight and increase to 50 to 60 mph Tuesday.
Cold front brings gusty winds and bouts of rainfall
A front rapidly approaching Kauaʻi from the northwest will move down the island chain today and tonight, delivering gusty west to northwest winds, brief bouts of heavy rainfall, and cool conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind gusts up to 70 mph on Haleakalā, Maui
West wind gusts will increase to 50 to 70 mph on the summit of Haleakalā and 60 to 80 mph on the high summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.

High winds knock down utility poles on Kamehameha V Hwy. on Molokaʻi
Kamehameha V Highway on Molokaʻi is closed between Mile 8.5 and 10 due to two utility poles knocked down from high winds. There is no estimated time on when the road will reopen.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for all Hawaiian Islands until 12 a.m. on Thursday. High Wind Warnings have also been issued for the summit of Haleakalā on Maui from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday; and for the Big Island summits through 6 p.m. Sunday.

A High Wind Warning has been extended until 6 a.m. Thursday for the Kohala district of the Big Island. A Wind Advisory has been extended until 6 a.m. Thursday for Maui County, Oʻahu, Kauaʻi and parts of the Big Island.

The forecast calls for northeast winds of 20-35 mph with localized gusts of up to 50 mph on Kauaʻi, Niʻihau, windward Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Maui and portions of Hawaiʻi Island. The advisory remains in effect through Friday evening.
Sunday Updates: Kona low brings threat of showers and thunderstorms
A strong front is moving rapidly toward the main Hawaiian Islands, bringing periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms through Monday night. Strong and damaging southwest, or kona, winds will also develop tonight and continue through Monday.

Winds of 35 to 30 mph with localized gusts over 45 mph are expected on the Island of Lānaʻi today. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory fo the island, in effect until 9 p.m.
Another Dusting of Snow Forecast for Haleakalā
Additional snow accumulations of 1-3 inches and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch is in the forecast, with winds gusting as high as 120 mph.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph are forecast for the Summit of Haleakalā above the 8,000 foot elevation. The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019.

The National Weather Service has extended the Wind Advisory for Maui County in effect until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019.
