6 p.m. update: Power restored to more than 114,000 customers since Saturday

In Maui County, crews are working to restore power to approximately 470 customers, primarily in Upcountry Maui and Molokaʻi. About 50 customers in Olinda will remain without power overnight due to the severe wind gusts and falling trees in the area.

8 a.m. update: Power restored to 80% of customers who experienced outages overnight

Crews are repairing a broken pole and downed lines in the Pi‘iholo, Upcountry area to restore about 230 customers and are also responding to other pocket outages. Around 6:45 a.m. today, crews restored power to about 960 customers in parts of Makawao who were out overnight due to strong winds and heavy rain that brought down a pole and power lines.

HECO 9 p.m. update: 1,300 customers on Maui to remain without power overnight

In Upcountry Maui, about 1,300 customers will remain without power overnight as island-wide gusts exceed 30 mph. In Kaluako‘i, Moloka‘i, crews are working to repair a damaged utility pole in a remote area before power is estimated to be restored early tomorrow morning.

Hawaiian Electric prepared to respond to severe weather impacts this weekend

As of 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, there were around 70 customers without electricity on Oʻahu, and no outages on Hawaiʻi Island or in Maui County. More than 4,000 customers on Oʻahu who had been without power at some point during the day have had electricity restored.

Bill advances to ensure fair compensation for customers affected by power outages

The bill requires that when more than 1,000 customers experience a power interruption lasting four or more hours, the utility must compensate customers for their actual damages. As of 11:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, there were more than 2,000 customers that remained without power in Maui County out of about 72,000 accounts. The outages are spread out in various parts of the island including parts of Kula, Makawao, Haʻikū, Piʻiholo and Olinda.

Update: Power restored to most Maui customers after 22,000 lose electricity during storm

Hawaiian Electric crews are working to restore power to approximately 100 remaining Maui customers in pockets of Kailua, Kīhei and Kula. As of 8:30 p.m., power was restored to all others including 22,000 customers in parts of South Maui, Upcountry, West Maui and Central Maui after early morning thunderstorms. 

Gradual restoration underway for power outage Upcountry

A power outage in the Upcountry area of Maui knocked out electricity to some traffic signals along the Haleakalā Highway earlier this morning. The outage was first reported at around 4:35 a.m. As of 7:40 a.m., an estimated 61 customers remained without power. The majority of impacted customers were expected to have power restored by 9 a.m.

Hawaiian Electric monitoring wildfire risk conditions

Hawaiian Electric reports the company is monitoring high winds and dry conditions across the state, which may lead to an increased risk of wildfires. If necessary, Hawaiian Electric may implement its Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program to proactively shut off power in communities with high exposure to wildfire risk.
