With $25,000 in funding from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai‘i or VASH has paid to send 19 people back to their airports of origin during the COVID-19 crisis. For individuals arrested for violating the self-quarantine rules, they have the option of arranging payment of fines with the courts in lieu of returning to Hawai‘i for trials.

On September 7, 1981, hikers discovered the skeletal remains of an unidentified person while hiking to “The Cross” in Wailuku Heights on Kapilau Ridge.

The pair were reported by a manager at the LayLow Waikīkī Hotel, after being notified by an “irate” citizen that Tien was allegedly “posting on Instagram showing her being out of her hotel room in violation of the State’s 14-day-self-quarantine law for people arriving in Hawai‘i.”

Scammers are impersonating the CDC and even offering fake cures or vaccines.

Bacolini was treated on scene and was later transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. A short time later, Bacolini died as a result of the injury he sustained in this incident.

24-year old Kainoa Kaoni is 5’11” tall and weighs 200 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He is serving time for Theft 2, Burglary 1, Forgery, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information, Attempted Burglary and Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle.   He now faces an additional escape charge when found.

Kaua‘i police arrested 36-year-old Adam Schwarze of ‘Aiea, Hawai‘i and 31-year-old Desiree Marvin of Alexandria, Virginia on Friday for violating the state’s COVID-19 mandatory 14-day quarantine emergency order, police said.

Maui police say an unknown adult male forcefully entered a jewelry store in Pāʻia at approximately 2:55 a.m. on March 30, 2020, and allegedly removed multiple items estimated at over $100,000. The male suspect, later identified by Maui Police as Chase Mociun, 37, of Kīhei was arrested and charged for Burglary of a Building in a Civil Defense Emergency, Theft I and Criminal Conspiracy.  Due to County of Maui being in a Disaster Emergency Relief Period, police say the Burglary of a Building becomes a “B” Felony.

“There was nowhere where they were going. One of them actually said that they were headed to the homeless resource center,” said Mayor Victorino during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. “So two of them that would have been on the island of Maui, returned home and not clutter up and take assets away from our people here in Maui County,” he said.

Maui police responded to 10 burglaries, 9 vehicle thefts and 2 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from March 29 to April 4, 2020.

Maui police arrested six individuals and issued a total of 101 citations over the past seven days for violations related COVID-19 enforcement efforts. Of the Maui citations issued, the majority were in Kīhei and Lahaina where complaints had been made of people congregating at the beach and in public places.

Once he is released from custody, police say Edwards will be required to either quarantine in proper accommodations, leave the island or face arrest for subsequent offense under the Governor’s order.

Maui police arrested and charged a 37-year-old Maui man with three counts of Burglary of a Dwelling during a Civil Emergency and Habitual Property Crimes. Due to the County of Maui being in a Disaster Emergency Relief Period, the Burglary of a Dwelling offense becomes a class “A” felony. 

Hawaiian Electric’s Maui County operations released surveillance images of a man who the company says, broke into its Lahaina Substation along Lahainaluna Road on Friday, March 27 around 7:20 p.m.

Maui police responded to a call this afternoon in which a caller reported hearing gunfire in a Makawao neighborhood.  Maui Police Lt. Audra Sellers tells Maui Now that one individual is currently in custody.
