Maui police responded to 10 burglaries, 9 vehicle thefts and 2 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from March 29 to April 4, 2020.

Maui Police Arrest Six, Issue 101 Citations Related to COVID-19 Enforcement

Maui police arrested six individuals and issued a total of 101 citations over the past seven days for violations related COVID-19 enforcement efforts. Of the Maui citations issued, the majority were in Kīhei and Lahaina where complaints had been made of people congregating at the beach and in public places.

Maui police responded to 10 burglaries, 8 vehicle thefts and 3 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from March 23 to March 29, 2020.

Kaua‘i Police Arrest Third Out-of-State Man for Violating 14-Day Quarantine

Once he is released from custody, police say Edwards will be required to either quarantine in proper accommodations, leave the island or face arrest for subsequent offense under the Governor’s order.

Burglary Arrest on Maui During Civil Emergency Becomes Class A Felony

Maui police arrested and charged a 37-year-old Maui man with three counts of Burglary of a Dwelling during a Civil Emergency and Habitual Property Crimes. Due to the County of Maui being in a Disaster Emergency Relief Period, the Burglary of a Dwelling offense becomes a class “A” felony. 

Surveillance Images Released in Lahaina Substation Burglary

Hawaiian Electric’s Maui County operations released surveillance images of a man who the company says, broke into its Lahaina Substation along Lahainaluna Road on Friday, March 27 around 7:20 p.m.

“We just need people to slow down.  There’s so much less people on the road right now. Speeds have doubled.  If motorist continue doing this, tragedy will happen,” said Lt. Hankins.   With law enforcement tied up with other concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Lt. Hankins said, “I just don’t feel it’s right to focus on one particular area when we are dealing with this.” 

Department of Public Safety Suspends ‘Non-Essential Programming’

In an effort to limit possible exposure to staff and inmates, all non-essential programming has been temporarily suspended.

10 Maui Men Arrested as Part of “Operation Keiki Shield 6”

Police say those arrested allegedly took “substantial steps” to meet up with those “minors” for the purpose of engaging in criminal sexual acts with them.  However, instead of minors, these offenders were actually met and arrested by law enforcement officers, police said.
