The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park reopened to the public at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, after two days of closure due to unsafe road conditions and power outages.

The two-lined spittlebug is native to the southern United States and was first discovered on Hawai‘i Island in 2016, when it damaged nearly 2,000 acres of grazing land. Since then, the invasive pest has devastated more than 125,000 acres of pasture grass.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino delivered his 2020 State of the County Address on Tuesday night at the South Maui Community Park Gymnasium.  During a 40 minute address, the mayor highlighted accomplishments of his first year in office and present his key goals and initiatives for the year 2020.

The state placed a Hawaiʻi resident into quarantine at Pearl Harbor on Monday morning after learning that the person traveled through the Hubei Province over the weekend. The individual was quarantined based on policy and an overabundance of caution. The person is healthy and has no symptoms, according to health officials.

Showers will likely continue to move over the islands today, leading to additional snow accumulations of up to two inches at the summit of Haleakalā on Maui.

46-year-old Heather Glennon was arrested on Feb. 2 after allegedly assaulting 51-year-old Christopher Flanagan outside of the Lahaina McDonaldʻs.

Flood advisories are in effect for Molokaʻi until 4 p.m., Maui until 3 p.m. and Lānaʻi until 2:45 p.m.

About 150 customers from Keʻanae to the Nāhiku homestead area are being asked to plan for an extended outage overnight until Tuesday, Feb. 11, after a large tree fell and brought down six spans of power lines along a remote area of East Maui around 3:05 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2020.

There is a temporary road closure in Haleakalā National Park due to winter weather conditions. The Haleakalā Highway temporary closure begins at Kalahaku Overlook (9,324 feet) and extends up to the summit of Haleakalā.

At 10 a.m., radar showed “waves of moderate to heavy showers” moving over Molokaʻi from the northwest, producing very low visibility.

Nā Aliʻi were defeated by Kamehameha Schools Kapālama 1-0 with a single goal scored by Anuhea Aluli at 50 minutes.
