A veteran officer of the Maui Police Department was arrested for first degree sexual assault on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The 48-year-old Kahului man has been placed on administrative leave and his department-issued credentials and firearm have been temporarily removed pending the outcome of the investigation.

HIDOE breaks ground on Lahaina educator housing project

The state Department of Education held a blessing and groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for a $20 million rental housing development for educators and school staff in Lahaina. The project addresses a critical workforce housing shortage and supports efforts to stabilize and retain staff at West Maui schools following the August 2023 wildfires.

More than $500,000 available through state’s Specialty Crop Block Grant Program

The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, Market Development Branch, is accepting applications for the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2025. The funding for this year’s program totals $512,663 and seeks project proposals that increase the competitiveness of Hawaiʻi’s specialty crops. Award amounts range from $20,000 to $50,000.

Kapalua Golf donates $500,000 to expand restoration of Maui’s Puʻu Kukui Watershed

Kapalua Golf donated $500,000 to nonprofit, Aloha Puʻu Kukui, to expand restoration of the West Maui Puʻu Kukui watershed. This contribution builds upon an initial $500,000 donation in February 2024 for a total of $1 million donated to date that will fund increased restoration efforts including invasive plant removal and native forest replanting, among other initiatives.

Free summer meals offered at 68 HIDOE schools for children 18 and under
