Maui police issue first license to carry a concealed weapon permit

As of Aug. 24, 2022, the MPD Records Division had distributed 187 Concealed Carry Weapon license applications in 2022.  Department spokesperson Alana Pico said 13 of those 187 have been submitted to MPD for processing.  A single application was approved.

A bill to create a pilot project so houseless residents may use their vehicles as overnight habitation in county parking lots was passed Tuesday, but some are voicing concerns over which properties may become a “safe sleeping zone.”

Pūlehu-Hansen Road intersection to become an all-way stop, effective Sept. 1

The intersection of Pūlehu Road and Hansen Road will be converted to an all-way stop, with stop signs posted at all four entry points, effective on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. Once the stop signs are installed, all motorists will be required to stop before proceeding through the intersection. 

Kūlanihākoʻi High School is approved as new Kīhei campus name

Kūlanihākoʻi High School is now the official name of the campus currently under construction in Kīhei, Maui, following Thursdayʻs approval by the Hawaiʻi State Board of Education.

The Maui Police Commission met on Wednesday to review complaints against Maui Police Chief John Pelletier and several members of his executive staff, alleging violations of policy and procedure.

Man charged after reports of SUV following and threatening female pedestrians in West Maui

Maui police have identified two “individuals of interest” after two suspicious reports Saturday night in which female pedestrians were reportedly followed by an SUV in West Maui, and threatened. In one case, the driver claimed to have a gun; and in the other incident, a gun was pointed at the victim, police said.
