The poetic picture book for young children, illustrated by acclaimed illustrator Kenard Pak, and featuring an afterward by Maui taro farmer and cultural educator Hōkūao Pellegrino, celebrates the importance of poi in Hawai’i by following one family as they harvest kalo and prepare food for a celebration.

The modern one-ring circus will showcase some of the best acts in the world at Baldwin Auditorium in Wailuku on Feb. 21, 22 and 23.

The temporary gallery is the second Maui location for Bill Wyland Galleries, which is home to the works of more than 20 artists, most of whom are from Hawaiʻi.

Queen Kaʻahumanu Center celebrates the Chinese New Year of the Rat on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2019 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The annual, high energy celebration consists of a martial arts presentation, firecrackers and colorful lion dance by Au’s Shaolin Arts Society.

Hānaiali’i was nominated for her album Kalawaiʻanui, which was released on May 31, 2019.

In celebration of the Year of the Rat, which has now officially begun, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua will feature curated offerings inspired by the Lunar New Year on Thursday, Jan. 30. 

Presented by the Leela Dance Collective, SPEAK features the world’s leading female Kathak dancers and iconic Tap dancers, joined by the world’s leading Indian classical and American jazz musicians.

Maui OnStage and Surf Rents Trucks presents the Maui Fringe Theater Festival 2020, a weekend marathon of the performing arts, from Jan. 23 through 26 at the Historic ʻĪao Theater.

Multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners Kūpaoa and Mark Yamanaka will join forces to for an evening of inspired composition with exquisite harmonies at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. 

Artist 2 Artist concerts feature special guests Johnny Valentine, Paula Fuga, and Keola Beamer.

The public is invited to the Wo Hing Museum & Cookhouse on Lahaina’s Front Street for an evening of cultural activities, lion dancing, and historical presentations to pay tribute to the Chinese New Year.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s popular ArT=Mixx series, a fusion of performing and visual arts elaborating on ideas in the current exhibit in Schaefer International Gallery will be held on Feb. 1.

Shimabukuro is slated to perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center alongside members of his trio in March.
