Update: Kona low prompts Flood Watch through Friday night

Update: The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the entire state through Friday evening. A kona low developing north of the state will bring the potential for a prolonged period of heavy rain and thunderstorms over portions of the state from Wednesday through Friday and likely continuing through the weekend.

Flash Flood Warning issued for East Maui until 10:45 p.m.; Strong thunderstorm to impact Hāna through 9:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui until 10:45 p.m. At 8:14 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over East Maui, falling at a rate of 2 to 3.5 inches per hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Flood Warning for Maui until 7:30 p.m.; Severe thunderstorms in forecast through Saturday morning

An unusually strong upper level disturbance moving over the state will bring the possibility strong to severe thunderstorms, which could produce damaging winds and large hail over the state. The greatest chance for severe thunderstorms will occur during the day Friday through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Listen for later statements, as well as possible watches and warnings, as this event becomes more clear.

Increase in showers for Maui and the Big Island; Maui Flood Advisory until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended the Maui Flood Advisory until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. At 7:06 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over East Maui, with the heaviest rain falling along the southern slopes of Haleakalā. Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inches per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Update/Canceled: Maui Flood Advisory until 10 a.m.

The National Weather Service has canceled the Flood Advisory that was in effect earlier today for the island of Maui. The NWS reports that weather radar shows the heavy rain has diminished and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat at this time.

Kona low continues to draw up unstable moisture across the state

An unstable tropical moisture band will keep widespread rainfall in the forecast, heavy at times, with developing thunderstorms across much of the state.

Update: Molokaʻi Flood Advisory until 7:45 a.m.; Maui and Molokaʻi Flood Warnings canceled

At 4:32 a.m., radar showed heavy rain had redeveloped over the eastern third of Molokaʻi. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour. The NWS says some locations that will experience flooding include: Pūkoʻo, ʻUalapuʻe, Hālawa Valley, Kamalo, Kalaupapa National Park and Kawela.

Maui Flood Advisory until 10:15 p.m.

At 7:06 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over parts of East Maui, with rain falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour, according to the NWS.

Update/Canceled: Maui Flood Advisory until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday

The Flood Advisory for Maui was cancelled as of 4:02 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

Maui Flood Advisory posted until 4:30 p.m., Dec. 31

At 1:26 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over both the north and south slopes of Haleakalā that was falling at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour. The pubic can expect rising streams over windward Haleakalā and water flowing in previously dry gulches around and west of Kīpahulu.

Flood Advisory in Effect for Maui Until 4:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021. At 1:31 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over northern Maui, with rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Passing Disturbance Brings Winter Weather to Haleakalā on Maui, Advisory Extended to Midnight

The National Weather Service says a passing disturbance aloft is producing snow showers above 9,000 feet. Chances for snow will diminish late this afternoon and evening.

Maui Flood Warning Until 11:30 a.m., Flood Watch Through Tonight

At 8:18 a.m., a band of heavy rainfall was moving east at 15 mph over central Maui. Rainfall was widespread with some rain rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour from Spreckelsville to Huelo and over the West Maui Mountains. Flash flooding is occurring or expected to begin shortly.

Emergency crews continue response to the overflow of a dam at Kaupakalua Reservoir on Maui. The earthen dam in the Haʻikū region of Maui crested over the top this afternoon at around 3 p.m. amid heavy rains and flash flood warning conditions.

Maui and Moloka‘i Flood Advisories Canceled, Flood Watch Continues to Late Tonight

Radar indicated moderate to heavy showers persistently moving into the windward slopes of Haleakalā, with additional showers also affecting windward West Maui.
