Emergency responders are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Makawao. Video from the scene at around 7:38 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, shows a vehicle that appears to have collided with a motorcycle near the intersection of Makawao Avenue and Baldwin Avenue. Piʻilani Highway is closed between Mile 29 and 31 in Kaupō due to flooding. A portion of Makawao Ave. is closed due to two large trees that have fallen and downed power lines block both lanes. Maui police have closed South Kīhei Road from Ohukai to Kīhei Bay Vista at 715 South Kīhei Road, due to heavy flooding. Crews are working to remove a landslide blocking the northbound lane of the Honoapiʻilani Highway at Mile 35.5 and 36 in Honokōhau.
Road Closure: Baldwin Ave. at Makawao Ave.
Motorists are advised of a motor vehicle accident on Baldwin Ave. at Makawao Ave. Maui police issued a road closure notice at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023. Motorists from Haʻikū, heading towards Makawao town are being redirected down Keʻe Road.

Update: 10:18 a.m., Aug. 2, 2023. Makawao Ave. is now open in both directions. It was completely closed on Tuesday afternoon due to a motor vehicle accident between Apana Road and Laie Drive.
