Oao Sushi Go celebrated its grand opening on Dec. 8 at the Puʻunēnē Shopping Center in Kahului, Maui. Locally owned and operated by Chef Bernardo Oao Jr., Oao Sushi Go’s story began as a humble food truck serving innovative sushi dishes that quickly garnered a loyal following. The food truck’s success led to opening the first brick-and-mortar location in Wailea. With this second location, Chef Oao brings his vision and flavors of Oao Sushi Go to Central Maui.

Cool Cat Cafe, a beloved local restaurant that was destroyed in the Lahaina fires, announced its grand reopening at a new location in South Maui. Sergio’s Cantina was supposed to open in fall 2023, but the Lahaina wildfires delayed plans. Several months later, on Jan. 3, 2024, the restaurant opened at the Honokōwai Marketplace with a refreshed ambiance.

In a significant decision aimed at amplifying the voices of the people of Maui, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement has chosen to relocate its highly anticipated 22nd Annual Native Hawaiian Convention from Oʻahu to Maui. Fairmont Kea Lani, an all-suite and villa luxury resort on Maui, brings an elevated dinner experience to their current oceanfront restaurant, AMA Bar & Grill. AMA’s new evening concept, serving casual elegance paired with exceptional cuisine, debuted on July 14, 2023. This comes following the recent transformation of the resort’s 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two- and three-bedroom villas.

The establishment was re-opened under a yellow “Conditional Pass” placard. An inspector will be conducting additional follow-up inspections to assess the establishment’s progress.

The Hawai‘i Department of Health Food Safety Branch issued a green placard to to a Pā‘ia restaurant today, allowing the business to reopen to the public following completion of corrective actions.
