Keōpūolani Park, Coach Soichi Sakamoto Pool and War Memorial Tennis Courts in Central Maui will have delayed opening times on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to accommodate for public safety during the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

Temporary closures are scheduled at several County of Maui ballfields and pools. Softball fields 2 and 3 and soccer field 5 at Keōpūolani Regional Park will be closed while lighting fixtures are replaced starting Wednesday, April 1, through Aug. 26, 2026. All County pools will close from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, for pool guard in-service training.

Pedestrian light poles at Keōpūolani Regional Park are being upgraded after inspections of existing ones showed they have structural deterioration and electrical issues.

As a result of the collision, the Yamaha operator, a 33-year-old Makawao woman, was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained critical, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Update: Kaimaile and Kawelu were located and found to be in good health.  The Maui Police Department thanked the public for their assistance.

Access to Keōpūolani Park facilities will be temporarily restricted to competition use only on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 to host the HHSAA State Championship event. The park will re-open for full public access at noon the same day.

Permit applications for the recreational use of County pools, gyms, fields, stadiums and tennis courts during the winter-spring period of Jan. 1 to April 15, 2025, are being accepted by the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation starting Oct. 1, 2024.

Access to Keōpūolani Park facilities will be temporarily restricted to competition use Saturday morning, Aug. 31, to host a Maui Interscholastic League Cross Country event in preparation for the Hawaiʻi High School Athletic Association State Championship event in the fall, the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

Hui Aloha Playground at Keōpūolani Regional Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 21 to 24 while undergoing vandalism surfacing repair.  All adjacent facilities will remain open and accessible with other parking areas available to use.

Keōpūolani Regional Park’s lower fields and walkways—about 4.425 acres of the 110-acre park in Wailuku—reopened on Monday after unsafe field lights were removed, the county Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

Emergency repairs of rusted and corroded field lights has forced the closure of nearly five acres at the 110 acre Keōpūolani Regional Park in Central Maui.

Keōpūolani Park facilities, including two softball fields, a soccer field, and portions of walking paths and a parking lot, are being closed until further notice due to a structural assessment that determined some of the light towers used to illuminate the field facilities are unsafe. 

The County of Maui unveiled a Playground Communication Board, which can be used by nonverbal individuals to communicate with others, at Keōpūolani Park in Kahului on March 31.

Drive-through COVID-19 testing will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Keōpūolani Regional Park.

The Maui Fair will be offering free park and ride shuttle services to and from the fairgrounds. Shuttle services will operate at designated parking stations in Wailuku, Kahului, and the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.

According to state health officials, one person dies by suicide every two days in Hawai‘i.

Keōpūolani Park will be closed July 18-19 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for cleanup work and to address health and safety concerns, county officials said.
