Mall officials say the event was organized to help ensure a quality education for students. The “I ♥ Lāhainā” event includes entertainment, live and silent auctions, and activities on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4.

The event comes as news surfaced this week of an 11-year-old Lahaina girl who is in need of a life-saving double kidney transplant. Experts say kidney disease is something that afflicts one in seven Maui residents.

One of Maui’s most popular events, World Whale Day (formerly known as “Whale Day”) is a free, all-day celebration that honors the humpback whales that come to Maui each winter.
