Along north facing shores, surf is peaking at 20 to 30 feet this morning before slowly declining late this afternoon. Along east facing shores, surf is peaking at 14 to 18 feet this morning before slowly declining late this afternoon.
High Surf Warning as surf builds to 45 feet along north facing shores
A High Surf Warning is in effect for the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi; the north facing shores of Maui; and the west facing shores of the Big Island. A High Surf Advisory is also in effect for the north facing shores of the Big Island.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning, in effect until 6 p.m. on Tuesday for the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi, and the north facing shores of Maui.

Peʻahi “Jaws” photos: large swell brings XL surf to Maui’s north shore
The famed Peʻahi “Jaws” surf break along Maui’s north shore drew a spectacular show of talent from experienced big wave surfers over the weekend as safety crews stood by to assist. These images were captured by photographer, Patrick Wardle who shared the images with us.

The warning level surf is the result of a large northwest swell that will rapidly build from northwest to southeast down the island chain today.

Surf of up to 40 feet is expected along the north facing shores of Maui as an extra-large north-northwest swell builds quickly today.
Second XL swell to keep High Surf Warning posted until 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29
Surf is expected to be in the 20-30 foot range along the north facing shores, and up to 18-22 feet along affected west facing shores today. The swell will have a brief decline tonight, but a second extra-large NNW swell will fill in on Thursday, bringing surf as high as 35 feet to the north shores.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi, and the north facing shores of Maui.
Surf expected to build to 25-35 feet along north shores
Surf is rapidly building to 25 to 35 feet along north facing shores and 18 to 24 feet along west facing shores today, according to the Maui Emergency Management Agency.

Maui’s Baldwin and Hoʻokipa Beach Parks close in anticipation of XL surf, Kūʻau flooding reported
The County of Maui announced the closure of Baldwin Beach Park and Hoʻokipa Beach Park in Pāʻia today in anticipation of an extra-large north-northwest swell forecast by the National Weather Service.

Surf of 40 to 50 feet is forecast along north facing shores as an extra large swell arrives, peaking on Wednesday. The west facing shores will also see warning level surf of 25-35 feet.
