A Florida man was arrested and charged with a Rules and Orders violation related to quarantine after arriving on Maui without a valid place of lodging or a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test, police said. 

A 20-year-old Makawao man, Jordan Finau, turned himself in to the Wailuku Police station on Monday, Dec. 7, and was subsequently arrested on a grand jury indictment for second degree attempted murder, fourth degree criminal property damage and two counts of third degree assault, police said.

A Kula man was arrested on Friday for allegedly refusing to fill out quarantine paperwork upon arrival at Kahului Airport from Hilo.

A Colorado man was arrested on Maui on Saturday morning for alleged violation of Rules and Orders relating to quarantine.  

Michael Hirokawa was indicted on Dec. 2, 2020 for one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of kidnapping, and three counts of sexual assault in the first degree. 

Former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha and his wife, former Honolulu prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, were sentenced in federal court this week to 84 months and 156 months in prison, respectively, for a range of criminal conduct, including framing their relative with a crime to conceal their own fraud.

The Maui Police Department is looking for anyone with information regarding several assaults that occurred on Friday Nov. 27, 2020 at about 12:50 a.m.

Maui police responded to four burglaries, 12 vehicle thefts and three vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Nov. 22 to 28, 2020.

“It’s the decision that you make when you get in that car.  You can’t change it.  It’s like firing a gun.  Once you pull the trigger, you can’t get that bullet back.  So we need people to understand, especially at this time of the year, especially during the holidays and even with all the other stressors that have taken place all year long–do not drink and drive.  Do not drink and drive,” said Lieutenant William Hankins.

Burglaries increased 50 percent from the week before when six incidents were reported. Vehicle thefts had no change from the week before when nine incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 71 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported.

Maui police arrested a Wailuku man for his alleged involvement in an assault against an off-duty police officer that resulted in life-threatening injuries.  

Maui police have released information on a motor vehicle accident involving Maui Police Chief Tivoli Faaumu after receiving a demand letter earlier this week and a video of the incident surfaced online today.
