Hawai‘i Rural Hospitals to Receive $2.5 Million for COVID-19 Testing, Mitigation
Ten small rural hospitals in Hawai‘i – those with fewer than 50 beds and Critical Access Hospitals – will receive $2,583,760 in new federal funding from the American Rescue Plan. This includes funding in Maui County for Kula Hospital, the Lānaʻi Community Hospital and Molokaʻi General Hospital.

Congressman Kaialiʻi Kahele announced today the introduction of the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole Protecting Family Legacies Act, bipartisan legislation that ensures long-term tenancy to beneficiaries of the Hawaiian Homes Commissions Act (HHCA) and their successors. H.J. Res. 55, reduces the successorship qualification of a lessee’s spouse, children, grandchildren and brothers or sisters from one quarter to one thirty-second Hawaiian.

Maui High Performance Computing Center Names New Executive Director
The University of Hawaiʻi Vanguard Center of High Performance Computing on Maui has named Tiare K. Martin as its new executive director, effective July 1, 2021. The center is part of the Applied Research Laboratory at UH and supports the US Air Force’s Maui High Performance Computing Center, one of five Department of Defense Supercomputing Resource Centers nationwide.
