“Big Wave Guardians” and “Humanity Stoked” at the Maui Film Festival, June 28, 2023

The Maui Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday with a one-of-a-kind Stardust Cinema which includes 11 feature film premieres taking place June 28  to July 2 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.

Common Ground documentary to screen at Maui Film Festival, June 29, 2023

The film is entertaining, a how-to primer for regenerative agriculture and a powerful call to action to fix our food system. Common Ground features appearances and narration by Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson, Ian Somerhalder and Woody Harrelson. It is the highly anticipated follow up film to Kiss the Ground.

Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner Sean Naʻauao performs June 30

Multi-Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner Sean Naʻauao is the concert headliner at The Shops at Wailea on June 30. The live performance will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. and benefit Hospice Maui, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing care to local families experiencing a bereavement state.

The Makawao Rodeo Parade returned in full flair on Saturday after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Spectators were greeted in true paniolo style with mounted and walking units, and popular stick horse races for keiki. The 2023 Parade Grand Marshal, Donna Otsuka directed the keiki pāʻū unit, and Duane Hamamura was the event’s Special Honoree this year.
