Senate Bill 5054 requires every person who permanently moves firearms out of the State to contact the county police department where the firearms are registered to notify that particular police department that the firearms have been moved out of the State within five days of their removal from the State.

Maui police are responding to a motor vehicle accident along the Honoapiʻilani Highway near Papalaua (between Mile 11-12). The pickup truck reportedly hit a tree and flipped over. The vehicle was off to the side of the road. The incident was reported at around 6:09 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020.

Wednesday’s cleaning of the Kīhei DMVL office was attributed to precautions related to a COVID-19 interaction at the facility on Tuesday.  

An estimated 4,300 acres was charred in the Hāliʻimaile fire that started early Wednesday morning. Containment is now 75%. There are 25 Maui Fire personnel on scene this afternoon, including air support from the department’s Air 1 and Air 2 helicopters.

The approximately 3,000-acre fire remains about a half mile away and does not pose any immediate threat. Fire crews continue to work on-scene and police are ready to respond, if needed.

A brush fire is burning in the Pāʻia area. The Maui Emergency Management Agency issued a notification at 10:04 p.m. (7.8.20) for Skill Village residents to “prepare your families, pets, and residences for possible evacuation if notified. Monitor for additional information and be prepared for possible evacuation.”

Maui County’s Immigrant Services Division has been informed that, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu has canceled its mobile outreaches for the remainder of 2020.

Volunteers with the Hawaiian Airlines’ community outreach group, Team Kōkua, will be on Maui this month, working on projects to freshen up the King Kamehameha III Elementary campus and prepare it for the new school year.

There are 23 new COVID-19 cases reported for Hawaiʻi today, including–20 new cases on the island of Oʻahu, two on Maui and one on Hawaiʻi Island.  This brings the statewide count to 1,094 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. To date, 811 people (75.4%) have recovered including 116 (93.5%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 264 active cases in the state, including eight on Maui.

Maui police responded to 4 burglaries, 13 vehicle thefts, and 11 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from June 28 to July 4, 2020.

Maui fire crews are responding to a fire reported below Hāli‘imaile Road along Haleakalā Highway. Residents report seeing the glow of the fire from nearby communities.

Maui police issued three citations for fireworks violations during a Forth of July enforcement detail held over the weekend. Police also generated 18 cases and recovered 26 aerial fireworks that were submitted as evidence.
