Maui Strong Fund awards over $2M to support mental health

The Hawai‘i Community Foundation is awarding over $2 million dollars in Maui Strong Fund grants to 24 nonprofit partners providing culturally relevant and holistic mental health resources to families, individuals, and youth affected by the Maui wildfires. The nonprofit partners will use the funds to provide a broad range of services including art therapies, trauma-informed workshops, Hawaiian language and cultural immersion education, and peer-to-peer mental health support for youth.

First Hawaiian Bank employees raise $873,987 for charity with annual Kōkua Mai campaign

First Hawaiian Bank today announced that bank employees and retirees have ushered in this year’s holiday giving season by contributing a donation of $873,987.53 to 36 charities in Hawai‘i, Guam, and Saipan as part of the bank’s annual Kōkua Mai employee giving campaign.

Hirono secures reinstatement of benefits for COFA citizens, over $307M for Hawaiʻi in federal spending bill

In addition to containing the recently-renegotiated Compacts of Free Association, the package includes the text of Sen. Hirono’s Compact Impact Fairness Act to restore access to a range of federal benefits for COFA citizens who reside in the US, including nearly 20,000 in Hawaiʻi. The package, which passed in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday, now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

Hawai‘i Community Foundation announced the award of $575,000 to three nonprofit partners focused on providing assistance to Maui families with small children who have been affected by the fires in August: Partners in Development Foundation, Child and Family Service, and the Hoʻoikaika Partnership with fiscal sponsor Maui Family Support Services.

Subaru Hawai‘i’s “Love in Action Campaign” to Donate $50,000 to Hawai‘i Nonprofits

Subaru Hawai‘i will donate more than $50,000 total in matching donations to select local nonprofits across Hawai‘i during its first Love in Action campaign. This campaign replaces its Share the Love Sales Event, which typically donated $250 per vehicle sold during November and December.

Maui Health Forum to Examine Needs, Resources

The forum is part of a Community Wellness Capacity project designed to discuss Valley Isle health needs and the resources to meet those needs, with emphases on low-income, rural, native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
