Two visitors were pulled unresponsive from waters on the north side of the ʻĀhihi-Kinaʻu Natural Area Reserve in South Maui on Saturday afternoon. Emergency responders were called to a report of swimmers/snorkelers in distress about 100-150 yards offshore at around 12:02 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2024. Authorities have since identified the victims as a 26-year-old woman and 25-year-old man, both residents of Washington state.

A man reportedly lost consciousness while spearfishing off Molokaʻi on Sunday afternoon, and died despite efforts at life saving measures.

A visitor died after being pulled unresponsive from waters off Wailea in South Maui on Tuesday, police said. Police say the man was snorkeling when he reportedly lost consciousness and was brought to shore by family and bystanders.

The man was part of a snorkeling trip, when he reportedly lost consciousness shortly after re-boarding the vessel.  Life-saving measures were performed onboard and continued once on shore; however, those measures proved unsuccessful.

A visitor was pulled unresponsive from waters at Honolua Bay on Maui Thursday morning. Police say a preliminary investigation reveals no signs of foul play and an autopsy has been scheduled.

A male surfer was pulled unresponsive from waters about a half mile off of Kanahā Beach Park Friday morning, Maui fire officials said.

A 40-year-old man was swept in or fell into the ocean, and a 42-year-old woman jumped in to assist. Both individuals were declared dead at the scene by Medics.
