The percentage of burglary cases neither increased nor decreased from the week before when 10 incidents were also reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 33 percent from the week before when six incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 43 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported.

The Maui Police Department issued 189 citations over a two week period for violation of public health rules and orders as part of an ongoing face mask enforcement effort.

Maui police responded to 10 burglaries, six vehicle thefts and seven vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from March 7 – 13, 2021.

Seven men were arrested on Maui during the “Operation Keiki Shield 7” law enforcement operation carried out between Friday, March 12 and Sunday March 14.

To help eliminate impaired driving from Maui’s roadways, the public can also expect to see increased intoxication checkpoints set at various locations throughout Maui County every weekend.

Maui police responded to 11 burglaries, four vehicle thefts and 10 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Feb. 21-27, 2021.

Maui police responded to one burglary, nine vehicle thefts and five vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Feb. 14-20, 2021.

The Maui Police Department is requesting the public’s help in locating Iran Idania Acosta also known as Iran Rodriguez Acosta, 32, who they say is wanted on a felony warrant.

Maui police made 10 arrests for impaired driving, including one for suspicion of Habitual OVUII during an impaired driving enforcement effort that started on Friday and continued through Sunday.

Applications are being accepted for Maui Police Department’s CSI Camp 2021. The Camp is a Crime Scene Investigation experience created for high school juniors and seniors.

The Maui Police Department has launched a Citizens Online Police Reporting System that allows users to submit a report immediately and print a copy of the police report for free.

Elton Ignacio, 40, of Kahului, was last seen leaving his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at approximately 8 a.m., driving away in a gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck bearing Hawaiʻi license plate #LKN573.

“It’s the decision that you make when you get in that car.  You can’t change it.  It’s like firing a gun.  Once you pull the trigger, you can’t get that bullet back.  So we need people to understand, especially at this time of the year, especially during the holidays and even with all the other stressors that have taken place all year long–do not drink and drive.  Do not drink and drive,” said Lieutenant William Hankins.

Facial coverings are required in Maui County. The most recent County of Maui Public Health Emergency Proclamation was amended on Oct. 23, 2020.

Beginning Oct. 30 and continuing throughout the Halloween holiday weekend, motorists can expect to see saturation patrols and impaired driving checkpoints, which will include the use of unmarked patrol vehicles.

The fifth of six community budget meetings for fiscal year 2020, hosted by Mayor Michael Victorino and his administration, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Maui Police Department is supporting multiple awareness campaigns in October to bring attention to community issues like domestic violence and cancer support and research.
