Considering  COVID-19’s economic impact, PWF representatives say they remain committed to supporting the global community during these challenging times by providing schoolchildren in grades 1-5 engaging educational content and ocean awareness while observing critical safety standards. 

Maui’s new country music station, K-Country, FM 106.1 and AM 550 hosts a four hour special total enttield “Celebrate the USA,” in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

Maui’s new K-Country 106.1 FM (and KNUI 550 AM) officially launches this week after an extended soft opening and frequency testing.

The series will be conducted monthly via ZOOM conferencing, kicking off on Saturday, July 18 at 1:30 p.m. with award-winning author Julie Checkoway who wrote “The Three Year Swim Club.”

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center and  the Kī Hō‘alu Foundation present The 29th annual Kī Hō‘alu Slack Key Guitar Festival on Sunday, June 28th from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center announced its current exhibit, The Rescue of the Lost Battalion will be on display through Aug. 28. 

Celebrate Maui Museums is a collaboration from the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, Lahaina Restoration Foundation, Makawao History Museum, and Maui Historical Society to highlight the unique diversity and history of Maui County. The exhibits were created for National Preservation Month in May, but will be kept online indefinitely for the community to appreciate.

Two awards of $500 each will be presented to applicants pursuing music-related education who best represent themselves through an essay and video highlighting their musical or engineering skills.  The application deadline is Aug. 1, 2020.

The Maui Food Technology Center announces the re-opening of the weekly Maui Sunday Market starting this Sunday, June 7, 2020. The event is open to the public and will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kahului Shopping Center located at 65 West Kaʻahumanu Avenue in Kahului. Admission is free.

On Wednesday, June 3 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center will host a drive-through pick up of free art project kits to students who participate in the organization’s Nā Keiki No‘eau After School Art Program at Makawao, Pukalani, and Pāʻia Elementary Schools.

The 2020 Teen Expo will be held virtually on Saturday, June 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The video features many local celebrities from various backgrounds – actors, chefs, media personalities, cultural practitioners, and Maui County residents – all encouraging the Aloha Spirit.

The 2020 Inaugural Makawao 4th of July Stampede rodeo and 55th Annual Makawao Parade are canceled this year due to COVID-19 concerns.  

The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 28, and was tentatively postponed to June pending community impacts of the ongoing COVID-19; however with ongoing concerns, organizers decided to cancel the event.

According to the Google Doodle description, Kamakawiwoʻole was selected in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the US and in celebration of his 61st birthday.

Legendary Maui Musician and Hawaiian music icon Willie K died on Monday night after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 59. A message to his fans notes he passed away in his home in Wailuku, surrounded by his ʻohana.

Representatives say the Hui will continue to follow all State, County and CDC guidelines and have increased cleaning and sanitization of all shared spaces.

The afternoon will include trivia games, musical performances by Shea Butter & the Cream, lessons on how to ‘Drink at Home Like a Pro” with Maui Brewing Co. founder Garrett Marrero and MBC Brew Master Kim Brisson-Lutz, and more.
