2021 PGA Golf Tournament Returns to Kapaluaʻs Plantation Course in January with Safety Protocols
The Sentry Tournament of Champions announced today that it is planning to host its annual PGA event Jan. 7-19, 2021 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. A limited number of tickets will be able for onsite spectators.

Volunteer Registration Open for 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions
The PGA Tour has opened volunteer registration for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions event on Maui. The PGA Tour’s annual event will return to The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 6 to 10, 2021 and will follow safety regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UH Football to Resume as Mountain West Announces Amended Eight Game Schedule
The University of Hawaiʻi football team is expected to resume play as the Mountain West Conference confirmed plans to start an amended schedule for the 12-member conference.

For the first time ever, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and schedule changes announced by the NCAA, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational is planning to relocate to Asheville, North Carolina this year.
HHSAA Extends “No Contact” Period for All Workouts and Practices Through Sept. 13
The Hawaiʻi High School Athletic Association executive board unanimously approved the extension of the “no-contact period” for the high school sports calendar through Sunday, Sept. 13, which means there shall be no instructional or developmental sport specific activity allowed between high school coaches and student-athletes.
More Winners Qualify for 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions on Maui
As a result of changes to the professional golf calendar made by the PGA TOUR due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions field will include an additional qualification category.
University of Hawaiʻi Student-Athlete on Football Team Tests Positive for COVID-19
The student-athlete was held out of practice and in self isolation since first reporting symptoms last week during the team’s mandatory, daily health check-in. School officials say the student-athlete is being monitored by the UH medical staff and is experiencing mild symptoms.
Maui’s Alms, Kemper, Lenny and Walsh Nominated for 2020 Big Wave Awards
The World Surf League today announced the nominees for the 2020 Red Bull Big Wave Awards, honoring the best in big wave surfing from the past 12 months. Maui’s Paige Alms, Billy Kemper, Kai Lenny and Ian Walsh have all been nominated in various categories.
World Surf League Cancels 2020 Championship Tour
The World Surf League today announced it is officially cancelling the 2020 Championship Tour and Qualifying Series seasons for this year, amid ongoing challenges of international travel and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
County of Maui Offers Virtual Programming Activity Videos Online
The initial posted recordings include activities such as how to make a ti leaf lei, arts and crafts activities, sports drills, agility training and stretching exercises. New activities will be posted to the web page every couple of weeks.

$10 Per Week Summer Youth Program Offered for Working Families in Maui County
The County of Maui announced a summer youth program in partnership with Maui Family YMCA that begins next Monday, July 6, 2020.
Pool Reservation Phone Line Closed July 3; All County pools Closed on July 4 Holiday
The Department of Parks and Recreation announced that, in observance of the July 4th holiday, the pool reservations phone line will not take calls on Friday, July 3. All County pools will be closed on July 4 and will reopen July 5.

Maui’s Wailea Blue Course to Close Until Further Notice
The Wailea Blue Course will close on July 6, 2020, until further notice. Course executives say the closure is “a result of devastating economic conditions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.”
Maui High Selects New Head Boys Soccer Coach
Maui High School announced Timothy Akina, Jr. as its new head boys’ soccer coach. Akina has more than 23 years of experience as a head soccer coach and official at both the youth and high school levels.
