US Sen. Schatz calls for stronger Red Hill closure consent order, more public input
US Senator Brian Schatz of Hawai‘i today called on the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Navy, and the Defense Logistics Agency to strengthen its proposed consent order on the closure of Red Hill to include more input from Hawai‘i residents.
Nisei Veterans Memorial Center presents What’s New: Recent Acquisitions Exhibit
The exhibit offers a first-person glimpse of precious artifacts from World War II, gifted to the Center over the past several months. Items include everything from a Japanese canteen from the 1942 battle of Guadalcanal, to a Japanese aircraft mechanic’s toolbox from 1941, to medals from the personal collection of Nisei Veteran Toshio Kubota (gifted to NVMC by his daughter, Valerie Matsunaga).

Predator-proof fence installation begins at Kanahā Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary
Work is currently underway to replace an old, rusty fence that surrounds the sprawling Kanahā Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary on Maui. The old fending is being replaced with predator-proof fencing to keep rats, cats, mongoose, and dogs from attacking ground-nesting birds.
