Maui Economic Opportunity CEO Debbie Cabebe was honored with the Human Resources Volunteer Service Award at the Society for Human Resource Management Hawaiʻi Conference & Expo last month for her work with individuals and families impacted by the 2023 wildfires. 

Fiscal Clerk Joni Remington, who joined Maui Economic Opportunity to assist with a wildfire relief program, was named Employee of the Month by the nonprofit agency.

More than 75 individuals interested in the new round of Maui County Agricultural Micro Grants, which offer up to $25,000, gathered in-person recently at Maui Economic Opportunity in Wailuku and via Zoom. A video of the gathering can now be found online.

The Core Four business  planning first series of 2025, presented by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center, starts Tuesday, Jan. 7, and runs twice weekly through Thursday, Feb. 6.

Applications for the popular Agricultural Micro Grant Program 5.0 – which offers up to $25,000 in grants to Maui County small farmers and ranchers – will be available starting Jan. 9, 2025.

The two-day Financial Literacy for Teens workshop, covering topics such as budgeting, saving and credit, will be held during the Fall Break week on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 8 and 9, at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku. The teen financial literacy workshop is offered at no cost and is put on by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center.

The Core Four Business Planning’s first series of 2024, presented by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center, starts Tuesday, Jan. 9,, and runs twice weekly through Thursday, Feb. 8.

Maui Economic Opportunity reminds small farmers and ranchers that the application deadline for the Maui County Agricultural Micro Grant Program 4.0, which offers up to $25,000 in grants, is about a week away. 

Informational sessions for Maui County’s Agricultural Micro Grant Program 4.0 will be held on Oct. 4 at Maui Economic Opportunity and Oct. 11 at the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani, helping small farmers and ranchers understand the application process and document requirements.

The first Money Matters Adult Financial Literacy Workshop series of the new year, offered by Maui Economic Opportunityʻs Business Development Center, will be held 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 19 and 20.

The first Core Four Business Planning series of 2022, presented by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center, starts Jan. 4. All classes are held online via Zoom.

Two business and financial programs, produced by MEO and the Maui Chamber of Commerce, will be held in July for entrants in “The Greatest Challenge 2020.” They are: Core Four Business Planning Course for Teens, and Teens Financial Literacy.

During the next Core Four Business Planning Course series, presented by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center, the person with the top business plan will receive a prize of up to $25,000 for start-up costs.
