Weekend closures on Makawao Avenue are again postponed and will start Saturday, Aug.15, and continue until Sunday, Aug. 30.

Tonight’s meeting (July 29) remains a Mayor’s Candidate Forum, and community advocate Gregg Blue will provide a brief update on recent developments on speed tables.

HI-Built, LLC will conduct road work in conjunction with the County of Maui Department of Public Works from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Hāna Highway at Kālepa Point is closed to traffic on weekdays (M-F) between mile markers 38 and 39 while Kālepa Rockfall Netting Replacement project work is conducted. Work takes place Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is anticipated to last five months.

Storm-related repairs on a section of South Kīhei Road in North Kīhei were completed ahead of schedule, allowing the stretch between Ohukai Road and Kūlanihākoʻi Street to reopen Wednesday, June 10, 2026, according to the County of Maui Department of Public Works (DPW).

Storm repair work is temporarily paused on South Kīhei Road between Ohukai Road and Kūlanihākoʻi Street pending the delivery of materials, according to the County of Maui Department of Public Works Highways Division.

The County of Maui Department of Public Works reconstruction project will require weekend closures of both lanes on the next sections of Makawao Avenue. The second phase of paving begins Saturday, May 16, and continues through Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Starting today, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the closure of South Kīhei Road between Ohukai Road and Kūlanihākoʻi Street will begin a half-hour later at 7:30 a.m. to better accommodate morning traffic, according to the County of Maui Department of Public Works.

South Kīhei Road will be closed between Ohukai Road and Kūlanihākoʻi Street starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 20. The closure will remain in place around the clock, weather permitting, through June 20, 2026, for repairs following recent Kona storms, according to the County of Maui Department of Public Works.

The County of Maui Department of Public Works is restricting general public access to Kapaʻakea Cemetery in Kaunakakai, Molokaʻi, following significant impacts from the March 2026 kona low storms.

County of Maui officials are urging residents to prepare for a second kona low storm that is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to Maui County — less than a week after a powerful, prolonged kona storm caused widespread flooding and strong wind. Meanwhile, County departments are taking steps to prepare while responding to existing damages.

Emergency shelters at Maui High School Gym in Kahului and Hāna High School Cafeteria were closed today, March 16, and remaining shelters in Lahaina and South Maui were set to close at 5 p.m. today, after being opened last week before a prolonged kona storm brought heavy rain, flooding and high wind to Maui County and the rest of the state.

Work on the County of Maui’s pre-fire Front Street Improvements Project will continue with updates to features of the historical roadway between the intersections of Baker to Pāpalaua streets and Lahainaluna Road to Dickenson Street. Maui County reached a significant benchmark in its recovery from the 2023 wildfires this week as rebuilding of the 100th structure was completed, the County of Maui Department of Public Works Development Services Administration announced Tuesday.

In his new capacity as Engineering Program Manager for the Maui District Office, Wade Shimabukuro is responsible for overseeing repairs and maintenance for over 600 buildings in Maui County, including public schools, libraries and state-owned facilities.
