Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony is now accepting registrations from young musicians for its prestigious Pacific Music Institute summer program.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s popular ArT=Mixx series, a fusion of performing and visual arts elaborating on ideas in the current exhibit in Schaefer International Gallery will take place after a three year absence on Saturday, June 3, 7 -11 p.m. in the MACC Yokouchi Pavilion and A&B Amphitheater.

This months popular Hawaiian Music Series will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn and will feature local musician and singer Mikey Mina.

Finding Sandalwood Mountain, a documentary dedicated to the story of the Chinese migration to Hawaiʻi, will be screened at this month’s “Movies at the Old Prison” that will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 7 p.m.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea hosts “A Taste of Italy,” scheduled for Friday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m.

Maui Matsuri returns to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College on Saturday, May 27 from 3 to 9 p.m., and will kick-off this Saturday, May 20 with Children’s Day at the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 54th Annual Barrio Fiesta will be held at Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului on Friday, May 26 (5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and Saturday, May 27 (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.).

Maui was represented well with high school students from H.P. Baldwin, Maui High School and Lahainaluna earning gold, bronze and silver awards in art, media, and photography at the annual Pele Awards event.

Marking the 14th celebration of AgFest, this year’s affair commemorates the important role of agriculture on Maui with all the popular signature events, education, food and fun—plus a few new features. This year’s Maui AgFest & 4-H Livestock Fair takes place on Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Special Events Field.

Make Music Hawaiʻi opens registration for musicians and venues to participate in the global Make Music Day on June 21.

Art created by Cailyn Omuro from Maui High School was selected as the winner of the US House of Representatives Artistic Discovery Contest. Cailyn’s masterpiece will hang in the US Capitol in the Cannon tunnel on display for Members of Congress and tens of thousands of visitors to see.

Even with significant support from the County of Maui and Mayor Richard Bissen, as well as assistance from the State of Hawaii and unions, the Alliance said it will not be able to hold the Maui Fair in 2023.  

Locally produced comedy series, Moku Moku began filming its first season on Tuesday in Makawao after a pilot test launch earlier this year. The show is now producing episodes 2-6 following a blessing at the production basecamp Upcountry.

Wailuku musician and spoken word artist, Tanama Colibri, will share a free performance at the Kalana O Maui County Building Front Lawn on May 11 as part of the public art project, SMALL TOWN * BIG ART.

The public is invited to a two-Sunday session workshop hosted by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui called “Make a Ceramic Sashimi Set,” on Sundays, May 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Friends & Faire on 1980 Main St. in Wailuku.

Maui-based graphic designer, Wailani Artates of Artistry8, was among those recognized for outstanding designs during the annual Pele Awards held on Saturday, May 6 in Waikīkī.
