Maui Firearm Permit Applications Soar to Near Record Levels in 2020
Over the 20 year period between 2000 and 2020, the annual number of permits processed in Maui County increased 261.4 percent, the number of firearms annually registered soared 409.1 percent, and the tally of firearms annually imported was up 466 percent. Record high tallies of firearms registered and imported were reported for 2020.
Maui Crime March 14-20, 2021: Burglaries, Break-ins, Thefts
The percentage of burglary cases neither increased nor decreased from the week before when 10 incidents were also reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 33 percent from the week before when six incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 43 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported.

Maui Police Investigating Suspicious Male in Olinda Forest
The Maui Police Department is currently investigating a complaint of a suspicious male seen in the Olinda Forest area of the Waihou Spring Trail in Makawao. Police received a tip from a concerned citizen who had also observed a suspicious male in camouflage clothing in the area of the Pine Forest Trail in Makawao a couple of weeks before the Waihou Spring Trail incident. It is unknown if the male in each incident is the same person.
Ohio Woman Arrested on Maui for Alleged Violation of Quarantine Rules
The woman was processed and released without incident after volunteering to leave Maui and fly back to Ohio.
