Police say Maui County’s total index crime rate in 2019 was the lowest on record since the state began collecting data in 1975. The number of reported crimes increased for five Index Crime categories: robbery (67 cases), +26.4%; aggravated assault (271 cases), +3%; theft (3,746 incidents), +2.9%; and arson (128 cases), +4.9%.

Maui police have closed a portion of East Līpoa Road in Kīhei between Liloa Road and Kupalaiki Loop (makai) due to an ongoing police investigation. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating 36-year-old Joaquin Pelayo of California. Police say Pelayo has allegedly violated the mandatory 14-day travel quarantine by indicating he would be staying at a Kīhei home, however he has not been located.

Maui police say new processing of evidence in a two-decade-old Maui murder cold case is “significant.” Anthony Moreno was arrested in December 2019 in Florida for the 2000 murder of Kimberly Belluomini at her residence in Kīhei on Maui.

The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is warning consumers about attempts made by criminals to file imposter claims in order to receive unemployment benefits.

Maui police made 12 arrests for impaired driving and towed 10 vehicles during heightened enforcement over the Memorial Day weekend from Friday night, May 22 through Monday, May 25, 2020.  

Special Agents from the Investigation Division of the Department of the Attorney General arrested 20-year-old Artyon Zhiryada of Happy Valley, Oregon and 19-year-old Dan Vlasenko of Vancouver, Washington as they were leaving a condominium on Lewers Street in Waikīkī.

Maui police arrested and charged 61 year old David Richard Stevens, a Lahaina area man, for second degree murder in connection with an ongoing investigation into the death of a man on Waineʻe Street early Thursday morning.

A 51-year old woman from Moorpark, CA was arrested this morning by a team of Special Agents from the Investigations Division of the Department of the Attorney General for allegedly violating the State’s 14-day travel quarantine.

Maui police have launched a second degree murder investigation into the death of a man found unresponsive on a side street in Lahaina on Thursday morning. Upon arrival to 535 Waineʻe Street, Lahaina Patrol Officers found the man on the shoulder side of the roadway.   Police say it was reported the male appeared to have been assaulted and was bleeding.

Degraaf indicated she saw the social media post regarding her violating the 14-day travel quarantine. Degraaf provided a statement and is cooperating with authorities. Degraaf is voluntarily elected to return home to Colorado.

Maui police responded to 4 burglaries, 7 vehicle thefts and 10 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from May 10 to May 16, 2020.

Police say Ashley Ruth Degraaf, 31, arrived on Maui on May 15, 2020. According to police, Degraaf acknowledged the 14-day quarantine, and indicated she would be staying at a North Shore Hostel; however, police were later contacted regarding Degraaf having immediately canceled her reservations at the hostel.

The Maui Police Department continues their search for John Kahalehoe III, who also goes by the name of “John Boy.” Authorities say he is wanted for several outstanding felony arrest warrants. Kahalehoe is described as 27-years-old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.  

Maui Crime Stoppers reports that Keahi K. Acasia is known to frequent the Moʻomomi, Hoʻolehua, and Maunaloa areas of Molokaʻi.

It’s reported Aliyev arrived on O‘ahu on May 1 and immediately began leaving an Airbnb condominium that he’d rented on Kūhiō Avenue in Waikīkī. Special agents say his social media posts showed him on the beach, at Diamond Head, at Foster Botanical Garden and at other locations across the island. He blogged while riding the bus.

Maui police arrested a 23-year-old Colorado woman overnight on two counts of violating Emergency Rules and Orders. On Saturday, May 16, 2020 at about 1:40 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence in Kula, regarding a female later identified as Tara Trunfio, who was allegedly on the property and refusing to leave.

A 23-year-old man from New York was arrested this morning by special agents from the Department of the Attorney General for alleged violation of the mandatory 14-day quarantine rule and unsworn falsification to authority.

State officers on Hawaiʻi Island arrested a 24-year-old man after receiving a citizen report on Wednesday afternoon of a large gathering at Alula Beach near Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor.
