Travel on Hāna Highway into East Maui is limited to emergency vehicles, essential workers and local traffic due to ongoing repair work and dangerous conditions. MPD has checkpoint enforcement from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on Hāna Highway. Haleakalā National Park’s summit remains closed, according to the National Park Service. The public is urged not to attempt travel into these areas until further notice. Below is an ongoing list of traffic advisories:

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation notifies highway users that paving on Crater Road (Route 378) is set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 7 following delays as the project was initially set to begin July 14.

Motorists are advised that paving on Crater Road (Route 378) is set to begin on Monday, July 14, with completion scheduled in October.

Motorists are advised that storm-related repairs on Kekaulike Avenue (Route 377) in Kula have been completed, a month ahead of schedule.

Kekaulike Avenue is closed from  Kula Highway to Waipoli Road, due to a large tree on a power line that’s blocking the entire roadway.

A Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs from Monday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 5. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. The Crater Road Fire has burned 574 acres since it was first reported on Wednesday evening. By 7 p.m. on Sunday, fire officials declared the fire 80% contained. Personnel with the Maui Fire Department will utilize an engine and a tanker overnight to monitor conditions, with work resuming on Monday.
